Happy Spring to all! With Easter coming soon, it is time to make last-minute Easter crafts (I do most stuff last minute ;). For felt lovers, I share these cute felt bunny finger puppets. The bunny craft is easy to make following the free pattern, and they are so fun for kids to play with. The bunny puppet set includes 5 different designs, which can be combined as you like.

General instructions

This Easter bunny finger puppet is stitched entirely by hand, using a running stitch, backstitch, whip stitch, and satin stitch. Visit my website for the guide on hand embroidery stitches.

Instructions follow to make the Easter felt finger puppet. The finished puppet is approximately 3.5 ” including ears (9 cm) tall. The puppet is made from scraps of felt.

Finger puppets are not recommended for children under the age of 3.

This tutorial includes the free bunny finger puppet template to make the bunny craft, a material & supply list, step by step instructions, and supporting photos.

Three-strand embroidery floss and one-strand embroidery floss are used to embroider the bunny puppet. Knot thread ends on the wrong side of felt.

TIP: Felt pieces can be pinned to the body shape to hold them in place until they are stitched.

Another option is to place a tiny dab of instant dry fabric glue on the reverse side of felt shapes and position them on the puppet’s body.

TIP: If you like to learn some tips on how to cut felt pieces, you can read my post about 6 techniques for cutting felt shapes.

TIP: You are welcome to read how to trace on felt post if you want to learn more about transferring the pattern on felt for embroidery.

How to Make Easter Bunny Finger Puppet

1. Use the Easter finger puppets template (from Materials & Supplies) to cut out all of the bunny puppet pieces from felt.

2. Pin or glue inner ears to the ears shape, following bunny finger puppet diagram. Pin or glue ears to the back finger puppet body shape, following the template. See the picture below.

3. Pin or glue hands and the object to the front of body shape, following Easter bunny finger puppet diagram. Cut a length of pink embroidery floss and separate one-strand. Sew whip stitch (learn all about whip stitch in my post) close to the edges on the object to attach it and make 3 claws on every hand (3 straight stitches). You can opt for the running stitch instead of the whip stitch if you prefer.

4. Transfer the eyes, nose, and mouth to the bunny puppet. There are a few ways to do that (check my previous post on how to trace on felt). I chose the tracing technique for this bunny craft.

Drew the bunny face template on tracing paper with a marker (you can use a pencil as well). Attach the tracing paper with pins. Cut a length of black embroidery floss and separate three-strands. Start with the embroidery of the eyes using 3 straight stitches next to each other. Then, embroider the nose’s outline over the paper and continue filling the outline with satin stitch. When completed, do backstitch for the mouth on the lines of the bunny finger puppet template. At last, embroider the hair with straight stitches.

Tear off the tracing paper at this point if you use the tracing technique.

5. For the inner ears, cut a length of pink embroidery floss (in the color of inner ears) and separate one-strand. Sew whip stitch close to the edges on the inner ears to attach it.

You can do this step in step 2, if you prefer.

6. Place the Easter bunny finger puppet’s front and back together and begin joining the pieces with a running stitch (learn all about running stitch in the tutorial) close to the edge.

6. Your DIY: Easter bunny finger puppet made with Fun Cloth Crafts free finger puppet pattern is ready for its happy owner.
