Crafting with kids is fun! So why not do a simple Halloween craft? This felt pumpkin is a quick Halloween craft idea for kids. This pumpkin craft can be made by kindergarten-aged kids as well as older kids. You can choose to glue the pumpkin pieces together, hand sew them, or stuff the felt pumpkin. The felt pumpkin is a simple Halloween craft that can be done by kids of all ages. Preschool-aged kids cut the pumpkin felt face and glue it to the Halloween pumpkin with the help of parents. This fun pumpkin can then be placed on a table as a centerpiece. You can also hang the pumpkin by gluing a ribbon onto the reverse side. Finally, the pumpkin can be stuffed with Fiber Fill to make it soft and more 3D-like. If your kid is older and likes to hand sew, you can do a pumpkin softie. Simply sew the felt pumpkin with a running stitch and make a Halloween softie. The pumpkin softie craft might give your kid first experience threading a needle, making a knot, and sewing with running stitch.
Materials & Supplies for Felt Pumpkin Craft for Kids

Felt sheet (find great felt at Benzie Design or find more buying options in the Types of Felt section of How to Sew Felt blog post) - orange, black; felt scrap - green
Scissors (my favorite ones are KAI 5 1/2 inch embroidery scissors or KAI 6 1/3 inch patchwork scissor)
Glue ( I use Elmer’s Craft Bond Fabric and Paper Glue) or Hot glue gun (here I would recommend Tilswall Mini Melt Gun 50W)
Optional:
Embroidery floss (DMC embroidery floss including hand needles) if you choose for hand sewing option
Embroidery needle (Clover Embroidery needle) if you choose for hand sewing option
Pins (Dritz Quilting Pins) if you choose for hand sewing option
Small piece of ribbon in an orange color (7.5 inches or 19 cm) if you would like to hang your pumpkin
Stuffing for crafts if you would like to fill in your pumpkin

Quick DIY Halloween Pumpkin
Download and print the free Halloween Pumpkin Kids Craft template. Cut the Felt pumpkin shapes from felt (altogether 2 felt pieces - body and lid). You will need a small piece of black felt to cut the pumpkins face.
TIP: For younger children or if you are short of time, cut the felt pumpkin shapes yourself.
TIP: Older children may cut the Felt pumpkin template themselves. The easiest way is to trace the shape on felt with a marker and cut it out.

2. Following the template, glue pumpkin’s lid to the reverse side of felt.
3. Take black felt and cut shapes to make pumpkins face. Glue the cut felt pieces to the pumpkin.
I left my son to cut shapes as he liked. He placed the cut out shapes on the pumpkin. Then I helped him gluing the pieces.

2. DIY Halloween Pumpkin Ornament
Download and print the free Halloween Pumpkin Kids Craft template (from the Materials & Supplies section above). Cut the Felt pumpkin shapes from felt (altogether 3 felt pieces - two body parts and one lid). You'll need a bit of black felt to cut the pumpkin's face. Prepare also a piece of ribbon.

2. Following the template, glue pumpkin’s lid to the reverse piece of the pumpkin. Then continue and glue ribbon on top of the lid.
3. Decorate pumpkins front piece. Take black felt and cut shapes to make pumpkins face. Glue the cut felt pieces to the pumpkin.
I left my son to cut shapes as he liked. He placed the cut out shapes on the pumpkin. Then I helped him gluing the pieces.
4. Glue the front and back pieces together to complete your pumpkin. Now you can hang your Halloween pumpkin ornament as a lovely Halloween decoration.
3. DIY Halloween Pumpkin Softie
Download and print the free Halloween Pumpkin Kids Craft template (from the Materials & Supplies section above). Cut the Felt pumpkin shapes from felt (altogether 3 felt pieces - two body parts and one lid). You'll need a bit of black felt to cut the pumpkin's face. Prepare also a Fiber Fill, pins, needle, and embroidery floss.
2. Following the template, glue pumpkin’s lid to the reverse side of pumpkin’s front piece.
3. Decorate pumpkins front piece. Take black felt and cut shapes to make pumpkins face. Glue these cut pieces to the pumpkin’s body. Note that I haven’t taken a picture of this step, so I’m using a different pumpkin face.
4. Glue the ribbon on top of the lid on the reverse side.
5. Pin the two body pieces together before hand sewing them. Leave an opening below to fill the pumpkin with Fiber Fill. You can mark the opening with pins.
6. Sew hand stitch around the pumpkin (about 1/3 inch or 0,8cm from the edge). I have used two-strand embroidery floss. To do the running stitch, you have to pass the needle in and out of the felt fabric at a regular distance. When completed, the running stitch will look like a dashed line. Leave the opening below.
7. Fill felt Halloween pumpkin with Fiber Fill. You can help yourself with a pencil. Fill as much Fiber Fill as you like.
8. Close the opening with the running stitch. Your DIY Halloween Pumpkin Softie made with Fun Cloth Crafts free pattern is ready to decorate your Halloween house.
