Looking for an easy no sew felt dog face mask for kids? Follow this tutorial to make a felt mask of a german shepherd. I made this dog mask for my daughter, who needed a mask of an animal for her summer camp. She chose to be a dog :) The mask is a part of her animal costume. Felt sheet (find great felt at Benzie Design or find more buying options in the Types of Felt section of How to Sew Felt blog post) in brown color and felt scraps in black and dark brown color
Scissors (my favorite ones are KAI 5 1/2 inch embroidery scissors or KAI 6 1/3 inch patchwork scissor)
Glue that works on felt (I can recommend Elmer’s Craft Bond Fabric and Paper Glue or Fabri-Tac Permanent Adhesive from Beacon)
Double-sided fusible interfacing (I used double-sided Ronofix) - optional; depending on the quality of felt and sturdiness you want to achieve. I believe a similar equivalent product in the USA would be Pellon Fuse-N-Shape Medium Weight Fusible Interfacing.
Fiskars Hole Punch 1/16 - optional to make holes for the elastic string cord.
Freezer paper sheet (optional - check out my tutorial 6 Techniques on how to cut out felt to find your favorite felt cutting method)
Iron (optional for freezer paper and fusible interfacing - I have Rowenta travel iron)
Instructions on How to Make Felt Dog Face Mask
Download and print the free Felt Dog Face Mask for Kids template. Cut the Dog Mask shapes from felt. You’ll need the dog mask shape twice to make the mask more sturdy. I also used double-sided fusible interfacing in between the two shapes.
TIP: Learn 6 different ways of cutting felt in my How to cut felt post.
TIP: Cut your bonding (fusible interfacing) slightly smaller than the actual shape to ensure it doesn’t stick to the iron and isn’t visible from the outside.
If you prefer to have your mask sturdier, use double-sided interfacing between the two felt dog mask shapes. Make a sandwich from a dog face masks, double-sided fusible interfacing, and a dog face mask. Iron it together until it holds.
TIP: Use pressing clothes to ensure your iron doesn’t get damaged. Iron from the centre out staying 10s on each spot. Iron it from both sides. Wait until it cools down.
Glue all the other felt shapes onto the mask following the pattern.
Make two holes for the elastic string cord. I use a hole hand punch 1/16 from Fiskars.
String the elastic string cord. Go from the front of the mask to the back. Make a nod (I do two nods on each side to ensure the cord holds well).
